1. A perfect Autumn wedding. The combination of less is more was perfectly
reflected in this wedding. Geelbek is Picture perfect for weddings. It is
romantic, rustic, with backdrops of sea, veldt, trees and historical Cape
Dutch buildings.

2. A vintage wedding in March with 1920’s as theme. The light was perfect and
a typical autumn day towards the end of March.

3. A typical Autumn wedding, after a rain shower the previous day. The skies
and clouds with Photographer Jan Theron made this dramatic. The little hut
is at Seeberg in the West Coast National Park, Langebaan.

Geelbek Restaurant and Weddings hosted the wedding. Early Autumn weddings on
the West Coast is perfect. No wind, no heat and just very good light.

Autumn on the West Coast means- clear days with a feeling of calming down. The air is filled with quietness – some inner peace. On a calm day the sea looks like a mirror and the light varies between pale blues, greens and grey. Clouds look like feathers in the sky.

This is the time to enjoy light soups filled with vegetables and to boost your immune system.

Look out for the following and eat smart:
Zinc- develop white blood cells, which destroy invading bacteria and are essential for the immune system.
Best source? Beef, oysters, pork, lamb, any shellfish, milk and yogurt. For vegans, wheat germ and fortified cereals are the best source;
Tea- black green and overall Rooibos or Honeybush. These contain virus-fighting acids.
Lemon and honey served with your tea, even a bit of ginger, will be better than to use milk.
Chicken soup- the “Jewish penicillin” The protein in the chicken helps to make the virus- killing antibodies and broth seems to ease the bronchial tubes. Add garlic-Find in our area some Wild garlic, add onions, and a good pinch of chilli, as well as healthy green and yellow vegetables. This will supply you with a healthy bowl of nature’s medicine.
Probiotic yogurts- basically stunt the growth of bad bacteria in the gut, and a large part of your immune system is situated there.
Mushrooms- increase the production of white blood cells, which can fight infections;
Vitamin C- Take a little and often, Broccoli, guava and berries, kiwi fruit, red peppers and then lemon, lime and oranges;
Vitamen E- Pumpkin and sunflower seeds, olive oil, nuts, mangoes and spinach are good sources. This is a good response to a virus
Oil- Rich fish- Snoek in our area, Mackerel, yellow tail. Canned fish like salmon, sardines, anchovies are all from this area and are good sources if you can’t get fresh fish;
Garlic- Wild garlic in our area contains an ingredient called allicin, which fights infection and bacteria. At least 7 cloves of garlic per week will do the trick. Roast them, crush them, fry them with onions and enjoy them in every dish. Use Wild garlic in winter salad, cook broths and sauces with Wild garlic leaves and strain them afterwards;
Sweet potatoes- well known on the West Coast- rich in Beta Carotene and a powerful antioxidant which fights damage-causing free radicals and infections- Replace your baked potato and enjoy a sweet potato baked in the skin and served with orange and cumin butter and topped with fresh coriander.
